The Heart of the Village of Williamsville, NY (Continued)
Serving God's people for more than 140 years St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Williamsville, New York began as a mission of nearby St. Paul’s in Eggertsville in the 1860’s. The present day lot was purchased with a building in 1870 from the Society of Disciples of Jesus Christ. The chapel of that building was renovated in 1885 and removed from it’s foundation in 1900, when a new church building was built in it’s place. The foundation originally built in 1839 remains under our sanctuary to this day. The current building was dedicated on October 21, 1900, hence we celebrated our centennial in 2000. In 1901, a basement was finished for Sunday School classes to be held in and an organ was purchased for Sunday School usage in 1909. Then, in 1910 a pipe organ was installed in the Sanctuary for under $1000. The first unit of the brick Sunday School area was added in 1949. An addition to the Sunday School area in 1953 included four classrooms, a kitchenette, furnace room, and a lavatory. Our pipe organ was enlarged and electrified in 1955, along with the installation of stained glass windows in the sanctuary. A third addition to our Sunday school was completed in 1956. Renovation, including a new foyer, church office, choir room, and handicap lift was completed in 1994. Since 1994 smaller renovation projects have added air-conditioning to the Sanctuary, added needed technology and, updated the Chancel to provide more open space and to accommodate a free standing Altar.
